Golden Boy!!

Richard Murphy, our Seniors Coach, competed in the British Ne Waza (groundwork) Championships in High Wycombe last Saturday, 16 July, 2016 winning all his contests in the 66 and 73 categories. Literally, you can’t keep a good man down!

Richard Grabs UK Gold!

Richard Murphy has added another Gold to his impressive string of wins this year, taking top spot at the High Wycombe Judo Masters Open in the UK last weekend (May 28th).

Pictured (centre) with his Gold medal, Richard fought and won the M2 Under 66kgs, with Ben Clayden (left), of Athenry Judo Club, who took Silver in the M1 Over 100kgs; and Mattie O’Loughlin (right), of Galway City School of Judo, who gained a Bronze in M2 Under 90kgs, at the hard-fought and well-attended international event.

Michael Melville just graded to Red. The founder of Judo, Professor Kano wrote ‘It is not important to be better than another, but to be better than yesterday’. Keep getting better, Mikey! Congratulations!

Galway Open

At the recent Galway Open competition in Calasanctius College, Oranmore, the judoka of Oranmore Judo Club performed with style and skill; Eireann Murphy, Bronze; Sylvia Bandura, Bronze; Nicole Duffy, Bronze, Aisling Duffy, Silver;  Patrick McGrath, Silver; Richard Murphy, Two Gold. Luke Murphy retired injured. Fair Play; Well done!

Oranmore Judo Club is proud of all who took part. All the clubs who participated appreciated the venue, the Oranmore town environment and location and all those who hosted the tournament; thanks to ye all, you know who you are.

Oranmore’s Competitions Coach, Richard Murphy won all his fights by Ippon to take Gold in Derry at the weekend, beating British Open Champion Robert Morrow to the top spot. Congratulations! That’s Golds in the Irish Open, the Irish Masters Open and now the Northern Ireland Open.

Congratulations to Richard Murphy, winning his three fights by ippon to take Gold at the Irish Open.

Last Saturday, 5th March, Richard Murphy, the Oranmore Judo Club’s Competition Coach, took Gold medal at the Irish Open in Dublin, winning all three of his fights with ippon – perfect throws.

The Oranmore club’s Eireann Murphy (aged 7) took Bronze  at the Open  – Well done Eireann!!

The club was also ably represented by Luke Murphy (aged 9), all from Clarinbridge, Co. Galway.
